Dump

Get it out of your head. Sort it later.

Open a blank page and start writing. No title, no folder, no decisions about where it belongs. The thought is on the page before it fades.

Dump is free on iPhone, iPad, Mac and the web.

A Dump page called Morning thoughts, written without a title, folder or tags

  • Start with what's on your mind

Freewriting is writing without a plan: whatever comes to mind, in whatever order it arrives.

  • Don't edit as you go

Typos and half sentences are fine. The point is to get the thought out, not to get it right.

  • Decide where it goes later

Come back when you're ready, keep what's useful and file the rest into a folder.

A blank page

Start before you know what to say.

Most note apps ask where a note belongs before you've written a word. Dump doesn't. Open it and type.

  • No title, no folder, no tags to pick first
  • Pages save as you type and stay together in one place until you sort them
  • Tap New page to start another page whenever the topic changes

On every device

The same blank page, wherever you are.

Dump is one tap away on your phone and one shortcut away on your Mac, so a stray thought never has to wait.

  • iPhone: tap Dump next to Folders or in the keyboard toolbar
  • iPad and Mac: open Dump in the sidebar, or press Command F
  • Also in the BrainDump web app, in any browser

Nothing to set up. Just start.

When you're ready

Tidy it up, then file it in one step.

Pages are plain text, so you can write messily and clean up afterwards. Tidy up can rewrite a page, correct its grammar or suggest a title, and you can compare the result with your original.

  • Save files your pages into a folder, and each page becomes its own note
  • Changed your mind? Cancel keeps your pages, and BrainDump reminds you an hour later
  • Tidy up needs a Focus plan; writing and saving are free

When a blank page helps

  • You don't know where to start

Skip the outline. Write the first thing that comes to mind and see where it goes.

  • You have too many thoughts at once

Pour them all out, then decide which ones matter. Sorting is easier once everything is on the page.

  • You want a morning page

Start the day by writing whatever is in your head, with no title and nothing to file.

  • You need a rough draft

Get the messy version down first. Let Tidy up or your own edit shape it later.

Up and running in a minute

  1. Open Dump

Tap Dump above the keyboard on iPhone, or open Dump on iPad, Mac or the web.

  2. Write

Type whatever comes. Pages save as you go.

  3. Save to a folder

When you're ready, tap Save and choose a folder. Each page becomes a note.

Questions about Dump

What is freewriting?

Freewriting is writing continuously without stopping to organize, edit or judge what you write. In BrainDump, Dump is a freewriting space: a blank page with no title or folder, so you can get thoughts out first and decide what to do with them later.

Is Dump free?

Yes. Dump is included in the free plan. The AI tools that can rewrite a page, correct grammar or suggest a title need a Focus plan.

Where do my pages go if I don't save them?

They stay together in Dump, saved as you type. If you cancel while saving, your pages are kept and BrainDump reminds you an hour later.

What happens when I save?

You choose a folder, and each Dump page becomes its own note in it.

Do I have to use AI?

No. Tidy up is optional. You can write, save and edit entirely on your own.

Which devices can I use it on?

iPhone, iPad and Mac, plus the BrainDump web app in any browser. On the web you sign in with your BrainDump account.
