How to Use Your Notes in Claude and ChatGPT

You wrote it down. Somewhere. A restaurant someone recommended, the outline for a talk, the three things you wanted to ask your landlord. Then you open Claude or ChatGPT to think something through and none of it is there, so you copy and paste, or you start from scratch.

BrainDump can now connect to both. Your assistant can look through your notes and add to them, right inside the chat.

What It Does

Once connected, you can talk to your assistant about your own notes.

  • Ask what you wrote. "What did I write about my trip to Lisbon?" The assistant searches your notes and reads the ones that match, then answers from them.
  • Save without switching apps. "Save these ideas to BrainDump as a note called Podcast ideas." The note shows up in the app, synced to your iPhone, iPad, Mac and the web.
  • Add to a note. "Add 'call the dentist' to my to-do note." The line goes to the end of the note.

That's the whole idea. Your notes stay where you keep them, and your assistant can finally see them.

What It Can't Do

We kept this small on purpose. An assistant connected to BrainDump can search and read your notes, save new ones, and add to the end of an existing note. It can't edit what you wrote, and it can't delete anything.

So the worst case of a confused assistant is an extra line at the end of a note, not a rewritten one. You can disconnect any assistant in Settings, and its access ends right away.

How to Connect It

  1. Copy your link. Open BrainDump, go to Settings, then Claude & ChatGPT, and copy the connector link.
  2. Add it to your assistant. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector. In ChatGPT, add a custom connector in Settings. Paste the link.
  3. Approve. Sign in to BrainDump when asked and approve the connection.
  4. Ask away. Start a chat and mention your notes.

You need a BrainDump account with sync turned on, since the connector reads the notes synced to your account. Whether your assistant lets you add a custom connector depends on its own plan.

Who Gets It

Every paid BrainDump plan, Lifetime included. It doesn't use AI tokens, so you don't need Focus for it. The full details are on the Claude and ChatGPT page.

A Few Ways People Will Use It

  • Pull together everything you've written about a project before a meeting.
  • Brainstorm with Claude, then say "save that" instead of copying it over.
  • Ask ChatGPT to find the note where you wrote down a recommendation you can't quite remember.
  • Keep one running note and tell your assistant to add to it as you think out loud.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Claude or ChatGPT read my BrainDump notes?

Yes, once you connect BrainDump and approve the connection. The assistant can search your notes and read the ones that match your question. It only sees your notes while it's connected, and you can disconnect it any time in Settings.

Can an assistant edit or delete my notes?

No. It can save new notes and add to the end of an existing note. It can't rewrite or delete anything you've already written.

Which BrainDump plans include it?

Every paid plan, Lifetime included. It doesn't use AI tokens, so you don't need the Focus plan for it.

Does it work with assistants other than Claude and ChatGPT?

It uses the open MCP standard, so any assistant that supports remote MCP connectors with sign-in can connect. Whether you can add a custom connector depends on your assistant's own plan.

The Bottom Line

Writing something down only helps if you can find it again. Connecting your notes to the assistant you already talk to means they come back when you need them, without the copy and paste.
